A young crow returns

[…]common foraging place for crows and other birds. BAX/HWCC intern, Cheryl Henke and BAX co-director and photographer Laura Corsiglia scouted for crows. Satisfied that this would be a good place for the young crow, they let him out of the carrier. Almost immediately an adult crow came to him. The young crow gaped (opening his mouth wide to ask for food). “I was astonished,” exclaimed Cheryl, “It was beyond belief. It was like they already knew each other!” The adult quickly coaxed the bird from the ground to a nearby treetop. After some brief conversation, the two birds flew off […]

You can help Bird Ally X/Humboldt Wildlife Care Center rescue and provide the necessary care for wild animals, like this gull, who encounter the modern world at its worst. No one wants a fish hook for dinner. Please contribute. Thank you for being a part of this life-saving […]

Christmas Song Sparrow Release!

[…]to our clinic for an evaluation and the safety of care while we assess the level of injury, and the need for treatment. Sometimes we might release the bird within 24 hours, and sometimes it takes a little longer, even without any broken bones. After four days of treatment, safety and readily available food, this Song Sparrow was back to normal. On Christmas Day we took him back to the neighborhood where he was rescued and restored his freedom. This Song Sparrow was one of the lucky “window strikes.” Besides the relatively minor injuries he suffered, the simple fact of […]

How can you mend a broken wing?

We strive to do the best work we can, for our patients, for our community, for our Mother Earth. We strive to improve. We strive to better translate the needs, the injuries, the desired futures of our wild patients into something that our fellow citizens of this built world can hear. It’s hard work, but not too hard. We are all allies of the wild. The wild is the first ally of us all. Over the next few months we’ll be asking for support as we prepare for our busy and financially stressful Spring and Summer months. We need your […]
